Households Energy SAVE Households Household Appliances Air Conditioner

Air-conditioners are heavy energy guzzlers and households serious about saving energy should consider switching to energy efficient air-conditioners. Despite the initial high costs involved to replace existing air-conditioners with energy efficient ones, the cost savings can be significant over the life span of the appliance, especially for heavy users of air-conditioners. Households which need to cool more than one room should install multi-split air-conditioners instead of using a few single-split air-conditioners, and air-conditioners with inverters are generally more energy efficient when used at partial loads even for long hours. Air-conditioners without inverters should be used when at full load.

Applications:
 Daily usage of 8 hours
Characteristics:

Multi-split non-inverter system

Compressor and its motor operate at constant speed; hence they fluctuate between ‘Full Power’ or ‘No Power’ mode à this frequent start-stop mechanism results in higher electrical consumption and the compressor tends to breakdown more easily.

Full capacity of the single compressor used regardless of the number of rooms cooled

Characteristics:

Multi-split non-inverter system

2 compressors used for 3 rooms: energy consumed is less than having one central compressor when less than 3 rooms are cooled
