The refrigerator is one main energy guzzler as it is switched on 24 hours a day. Most users now prefer refrigerators with freezers and some refrigerators also come with additional features like automatic icemakers and through-the-door dispensers. These features will increase energy consumption by the refrigerator. Large refrigerators also consume more energy than small refrigerators; hence it is necessary to purchase the smallest model that sufficiently suits the needs of the household.
