Energy SAVE Programe for Households

A study has been initiated to assess changes in energy consumption by replacing existing household electrical appliances with energy efficient appliances. Energy SAVE.Demo-households have been identified in existing HDB households to assess the impact of replacing existing electrical appliances with energy efficient alternatives.

Energy consumption of individual household appliances (based on sampling done at these 2 precincts)

The main energy guzzlers in a household are the refrigerator, air-conditioner, lights, TV and water heater. NEA has introduced a Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) which is currently used to label refrigerators and air-conditioners, the two main s energy guzzlers. 0 tick indicates a low energy efficiency rating whilst the maximum of 4 ticks indicates an excellent energy efficiency rating.

Two households have been identified in the demo precinct at Serangoon North to be used as the Energy SAVE Demo-households. Energy consumption would be measured to monitor and verify energy savings before and after the replacement of appliances.

The following energy efficient alternatives have been installed in the Energy SAVE Demo-households, depending on the individual household's consumption habits as well as its existing appliances.

The NEA home energy calculator is a useful tool to determine the energy consumption of household electrical appliances. Energy usage will be calculated in both kWh and dollar value.
